Presidential Debate’s Outcome Could Affect VP Debate

A vice presidential debate co-chair says Wednesday night’s presidential debate could affect what happens at the VP debates next week.

"What they try to accomplish on the stage will certainly be shaped by what happens in Denver tonight," said VP debate co-chair Dr. Clarence Wyatt.

He says it could make the difference in what the presidential hopeful’s running mates have to say.

"Seizing on a perceived advantage, or doing some cleanup," said Wyatt.

The co-chair adds that these first two debates are the most crucial, though Kentucky’s Governor Beshear disagreed.

"These debates sometimes get a little overblown in terms of their importance. Obviously, if you make a big foul-up, it might make a difference…but most of the time, people equip themselves pretty well," he said.

Either way, Wyatt says viewers of the debates should be able to answer one question at the end of them: is this someone in whose hands I want to place the future of my country?

The presidential debate is Wednesday night at 9PM EST.

The vice-presidential debate is Oct. 11th at 9PM EST.

Both debates will air live on ABC 36.
