‘Prelude to the Cup’ underway at Keeneland

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Prelude to the Cup is underway at Keeneland in Lexington.  The track describes it as a special day of racing on the eve of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Gates opened at 11:00am, and post time for the first race is 12:30pm. Keeneland says it has carded nine races for Prelude Day. It says people attending the event will have a chance to see several Breeders’ Cup contenders while they school in the Saddling Paddock between races. For a schedule of schooling times, click here.

Tickets are still available for Prelude Day at the Keeneland Ticket Office. The track says General Admission tickets, which do not include a seat, are $5. Children 12 and under will receive free General Admission with a paid adult.

“Prelude to the Cup is Keeneland’s dress rehearsal for the Breeders’ Cup,” Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason. “Giving fans the opportunity to see Championship competitors within this festive Breeders’ Cup setting will provide a truly memorable day at the races.”

Keeneland says parking and transportation today will operate like the Breeders’ Cup, with on-site parking limited to those with a pre-paid parking pass. And for today only, parking is also available on The Hill, Keeneland’s designated tailgating area, for $5.

Park-and-Ride to and from the track is also an option today. The shuttles will run from the Kentucky Horse Park and Rupp Arena. Keeneland says parking passes may only be purchased at the Kentucky Horse Park and are $20 per vehicle. It says “walk-up” shuttle service from Rupp Arena is available for $5. Keeneland says the parking passes include a free Prelude to the Cup program for every person riding the shuttle.
