Pre-filed bill would make some telemarketing practices illegal

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Republican state lawmaker from Louisville pre-filed a bill for the upcoming legislative session that would make certain telemarketing practices illegal.

House Majority Whip Kevin Bratcher’s bill would require telemarketers to list their true caller ID number or have it listed as unknown.

The bill would not apply to situations involving police investigations, domestic violence or whistleblower protections.

Under the proposed measure, a first-time penalty would be a $500 fine.  Additional offenses would carry out a $3,000 fine.

The General Assembly will convene after the first of the year.
