Power outages in Woodford Co. resolved
"It was really cold and I got up to go the bathroom and tried to turn on the light and I didn’t get one so I had to wake my mom up," says Emilee Douglas.
Douglas and her mom are in the middle of a move to Nicholasville. They’re hoping to be out by Wednesday, but the weather and now a power outage have not made things easy. They say their lights were out from about 6 to 7:35 Thursday morning, though they say they didn’t miss the lights as much as the heat.
Kentucky Utilities says the outage was caused by an overload of too many people using too much power at the same time. The company says they were able to shift the greater part of the load to another location and reset the circuit.
Cliff Feltham of KU says, "It happens when we get really cold, but, we never know where, because people use electricity differently on different days." He also says there were outages in Madison, Fayette and Scott counties.
The power company says during extreme weather conditions, if residents can use high-energy drawing devices as sparingly as possible between 6 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., future overloads can be avoided.
