Powell County home slides down hill
After their bed was thrown to the other side of the room, Havens said, "We didn’t really know what happened. We tried to open the bedroom door. We couldn’t get it open."
Havens said she had to crawl out of the front window to get out of the house, which was then at the same angle as the hill.
Hood said, "If we can get it all out of there, we can about salvage everything we got. Getting it out of there is gonna be a problem."
The couple says rain water flows down their steep driveway and then flows right under their home. They believe the water eroded part of their foundation, causing the house fall of its supports and slide down the hill. Hood said he is glad the roof didn’t collapse, making it easier to get out of the home.
The family doesn’t know when, or even if, they will rebuild their house there, but the Red Cross is helping them.
