Possible Lexington minimum wage increase on hold

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Some people in Lexington want the minimum wage to increase from $7.25 to $10.10.

People from different organizations throughout the county joined together to rally in Phoenix Park to raise awareness about the minimum wage and the need to increase it.

Those rallying mentioned $7.25 is not enough for working families to survive and say an increase would help everyone in Lexington.

“If you have more money, you’re going to spend more money and it is going to help businesses,” said Janet Tucker with the Lexington Working Families Campaign. “The money will be spent locally and that’s important.”

After the rally, supporters of the increase marched to the Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee meeting where a minimum wage increase was on the agenda.

The committee decided to table the increase. Some committee members want to wait and see how Louisville’s recent minimum wage increase works out.
