Police step up search for child rape suspect

SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Authorities are stepping up efforts to locate a man facing child rape charges in Massachusetts who allegedly cut off a court-ordered GPS device and fled to Kentucky and North Carolina.

Police say 26-year-old Gregory Lewis, of Southbridge, is considered armed and dangerous.

Police say Lewis cut off the ankle bracelet on Sept. 15 and fled to Kentucky and then to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he allegedly kidnapped, robbed and assaulted a woman on Sept. 23.

He returned to his parents’ home on Sept. 25, where he allegedly tied up and assaulted a family member before fleeing with a handgun.

He is believed to be driving his parents’ blue 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Lewis was released on $1,000 bail after his arraignment Aug. 6 on charges including statutory rape of a child.
