Police: Shaken infant has ‘bleak chance of survival’

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Police in Kentucky say a 1-month-old boy who was shaken by his father has a “bleak chance of survival.”

News outlets report the boy was in critical condition as of Wednesday. His father, 25-year-old Demarcus Swain, was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault and criminal abuse. A Louisville police report says the baby was brought to a hospital with life-threatening injuries over the weekend.

It says Swain told responding officers that he shook the baby because he was frustrated the baby was crying. WDRB-TV reports the baby is named Ayden and is the son of Anisha Hathaway, who says she’s separated from Swain.

Court records say Swain pleaded not guilty Wednesday and is set to appear in court next week. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
