Police seize enough fentanyl to kill 50,000 people during traffic stop in Lawrenceburg

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two people have been charged after police recovered a large amount of fentanyl during a traffic stop Friday.

According to police, nearly 100 grams of fentanyl were recovered, which is enough to kill 50,000 people.

Bruce Chilton and Teresa Mae Smith, both from Lawrenceburg, were taken into custody after the traffic stop. According to police, the pair was transporting the drugs for money.

Chilton has been charged with with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

Smith has been charged with two counts of first and one count of third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and giving police a false name.
