Police search for man wanted for robbery after crash in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Georgetown police are looking for a man, they say crashed a stolen car in Lexington after being spotted by an off-duty officer.

Georgetown police say a robbery suspect crashed a stolen car here at the intersection of South Limestone and Virginia Avenue before jumping out of the car and running in the direction of UK’s campus.

Police released surveillance photos they say shows the man they are looking for.

Police have not identified him but say he is believed to be the suspect in the robbery of a Georgetown liquor store earlier this week.

Around 6 a.m. Tuesday, police say an off-duty officer spotted the suspect in a stolen car on UK’s campus.

Police say that officer tried to pull the suspect over but the suspect rammed into his cruiser, sped off through a red light at the intersection and was hit by a car going through.

Police say the suspect then got out of the car and ran back towards UK’s campus.

“He’s still at large. Lexington p-d came, fire department, worked the accident, transported the injured persons to the local hospitals,” said Assistant Police Chief Robert Swanigan.

Three people were injured in the crash, two passengers in the stolen car and the driver of the other car.

All three are expected to be okay.

UK police say they searched the campus after the accident but didn’t find the suspect.

They say they do not believe he is still on campus.
