Frankfort Police open criminal investigation into cat deaths

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Frankfort Police have opened a criminal investigation after receiving several reports of cats being harmed and killed in the community.

Police say the calls are coming from the Elkhorn Drive neighborhood. Reports that several neighborhood cats were poisoned and died and one report of a cat possibly hit by car or beaten.

Police are waiting for a necropsy on one cat to see if it was poisoned.

Assistant Chief Lynn Aubrey says the safety of people and animals is a top priority but officers need the community to let them handle this.

“I appreciate the passion these people have and the care for these animals and they want to make sure the animals are taking care of and certainly no one wants any harm to come to these animals,” says Asst. Chief Aubrey. “The problem is when people start taking actions into their own hands it really makes our investigation a lot more difficult.”

Police are actively looking for evidence in this case and ask you contact them with any information.
