Police: Man texts family while being held hostage at Lexington home

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A text to a family sent police to a Lexington home on Tuesday.

According to the Lexington Police Department, a man sent a text to his family before 5 p.m. saying he was being held at gunpoint at a home on Andover Village Drive.

Police went to the home of 40-year-old Richard Hayes and arrested him.

According to court documents, officers found a gun, along with twenty-six small individual baggies of synthetic marijuana weighing almost 40 grams, along with scales in the home.

Police did not comment on the victim.

Hayes is charged with unlawful imprisonment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and trafficking in synthetic drugs.
