Police investigating bank robbery in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two Lexington schools went on heightened alert on Monday while police searched for a suspect in a bank robbery.

The robbery happened around 9:20 a.m. at the Central Bank on West New Circle Road.

The Lexington Police Department says a man wearing a face mask entered the bank, pulled out a gun and demanded money.

He left the bank after getting some money, got into a van parked outside and took off.

A short time later, that van crashed into the Aurora Pools and Spa Warehouse on Colesbury Road.

Police say the bank robbery suspect could be seen on surveillance video jumping out of the van and running off.

According to police, cash and other items tied to the robbery were found on the ground near the van.

Police say Dixie Elementary School and Crawford Middle School were placed on heightened alert while officers searched the area for the suspect.
