UPDATE: Accused South Broadway shooters plead not guilty

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -Dylan Capps, accused in a shooting on Monday, May 22, that killed 19-year-old Justin Lee Jenkins appeared in court on Tuesday along with Keegan Newtown.

Public defenders were appointed to Capps and Newtown who pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The shooting happened just before 3:30 p.m. Monday on South Broadway.  According to police, there was a fight between two groups of people that escalated and shots were fired.

Jenkins was found shot at the scene and taken to UK hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  Police believe Capps shot Jenkins and say Newtown fired at Capps’ car.

Capps was given a $10,000 bond for an assault charge, however, there is no bond for his murder charge.  Newtown’s bond remained at 5,000 for his charge of wanton endangerment.

Newtown asked the judge to lower his bond then tearfully said, “My little brother died.”

Both men are due back in court on June 2nd at 8:30 a.m.

Victim identified in fatal S. Broadway shooting

The Fayette County Coroner has released the name of the victim in a shooting Monday afternoon on South Broadway.

According to the coroner, the victim is 19-year-old Justin Lee Jenkins.

The shooting happened at 3:30 p.m. Monday on South Broadway.

According to police, there was a fight between two groups of people that escalated and shots were fired.

Jenkins was found shot at the scene and taken to UK hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

20-year-old Dylan Capps, pictured above, has been charged with murder in the shooting.

Police arrest two people following deadly double shooting

Lexington police arrested two people in a double shooting that left one man dead.

The shooting happened at 3:30 p.m. Monday on South Broadway.

According to police, there was a fight between two groups of people that escalated and shots were fired.

Police said a 19-year-old was found shot at the scene.

He was taken to the University of Kentucky hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His name has not been released.

Officers learned a 20-year-old was also shot and was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle

During their investigation, police learned 20-year-old Dylan Capps was seen leaving the scene after shooting at both victims.

Officers later stopped Capps and took him into custody.

He is charged with murder and assault.

Police also took a friend of the victims into custody.

They say 19-year-old Keegan Newton shot at Capp’s car.

He is charged with wanton endangerment.
