LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Friday! It’s a clear start to the day for the northern half of the area with lingering clouds and some fog in southern and southeastern Kentucky. This cloud cover will be clearing out throughout the day giving way to pleasant conditions for the afternoon. Temperatures will be peaking in the low-to-mid 60s today with mostly sunny afternoon highs. Overnight will be cooler than last night. Morning lows on Saturday will range from the upper 30s in the valleys to the low-to-mid 40s for everyone else.

Saturday forecast
Saturday will be a nice day across the region. A warm front will lift through the area during the midday, allowing temperatures to climb into the mid-to-upper 60s. There will be cloud cover increasing through the day and that’s out ahead of a cold front that will bring widespread rain Saturday night into Sunday.

Late weekend rain
Rain arrives late Saturday and we will be with throughout the day on Sunday. You can expect a wave of the heaviest of the rain during the early morning hours on Sunday, followed by a line of breezy showers along the cold front during the second half of the day. Around an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall will be possible across central/northern Kentucky, with lesser amounts in southeastern Kentucky. Wind gusts Sunday will peak around 30-40 mph, with isolated stronger gusts possible.

Early next week
The front will begin to exit the region late Sunday into Monday. There will be a few lingering showers in the mountains of far southeastern Kentucky, but most other areas should remain dry for your Veterans Day. Expect cooler conditions Monday night into Tuesday behind the front once skies clear out. We briefly will spike temperatures back into the upper 60s and low 70s on Wednesday of next week ahead of another cold front.

Next week’s cold front
This front that is set to move through towards the end of next week will likely drop temperatures for Thursday and Friday. This means afternoon highs on Thursday and possibly next Friday will remain in the 50s.
