Pets Need Pals – Lily – Woodford Humane Society
Beth Oleson, with Woodford Humane Society, brings 5-year-old dachshund Lily to the show who, along with her brother, is looking for a forever home.
Oleson also spreads the word about the Woodford Wag, coming up on Saturday, May 27th. The Woodford Wag is Woodford Humane Society’s annual 5K cross country race and 2K dog walk, presented by the Woodford Veterinary Clinic Kennel. Registration is open now, with all proceeds from the race benefiting the homeless animals of WHS. The 5K race is a beautiful, challenging cross country course on the trails around Falling Springs Park, and is professionally timed by John’s Run/Walk Shop; the 2K is more casual and is untimed. No dogs on the 5K course, for the safety of our runners.
In addition to the race and walk, WHS will hold contests and prize drawings, and have animal-themed vendors from the local business community, along with a dog wash station.
This year, WHS will also be collecting donated leashes at the Wag. We’ll give donors an extra prize ticket for each leash they donate.
Established in 1975, the Woodford Humane Society is a non-profit animal adoption center in Versailles that cares for homeless and unwanted animals in Woodford County, surrounding counties, as well as animals from other states.
At any given time, they house over 200 animals, available for adoption. Adoption counselors are on staff to assist with the selection of a new pet. The facility also maintains a “wish book” for people seeking a particular breed, and alerts them when a match has been made.
Adoption fees include spay or neuter surgery, a Home Again microchip, vaccinations and de-worming, feline leukemia and FIV screening for cats, heartworm screening for dogs, rabies vaccinations, and a free veterinary checkup.
Woodford Humane Society provides counseling and offers advice for topics such as obedience training, housebreaking, helping your pet adapt to a new home and other behavioral issues.
The Woodford Humane Society is located at 265 Thomas Lane in Versailles.
