Pet Advocates Ask Frankfort For Stricter Laws

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Various animal advocacy groups rallied together in Frankfort Tuesday to convince state lawmakers to pass four new bills to help protect animals.

House Bill 154 would upgrade the animal fighting law, helping law enforcement officials to obtain a warrant more easily for buildings thought to be holding dog fighting rings.

House Bill 177 would require outdoor pets to have a safe shelter, helping to protect them from the extreme elements of winter and summer. Both HB 154 and HB 177 are sponsored by House Speaker Greg Stumbo.

House Bill 56 would require owners of pets to forfeit their pets when convicted of animal abuse.

Senate Bill 124 has also been filed and would prohibit breed discrimination in regulation for public safety.
