People sick of rain and water in Estill County

Estill County Emergency Management says there were nearly a dozen washed-out streets because of Tuesday’s rain.

People in Irvine say they are sick and tired of rain, flooding and road closures.

“The water from the rain rises quickly here and the road gets closed every morning, every rain,” says Shauna Mullins who lives on Clear Creek Road, which was closed Tuesday due to flooding.

Estill County EMA says as of around noon on Tuesday, the Kentucky River was at 19 feet, that’s two feet above the flood line.  It’s expected to get to 29 feet by Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

“It’s not that bad right now, if we get to 29 feet that will be a different story,” said Melissa Jessie with EMA. “With flooding there’s not a lot you can do, you watch it.”

EMA says it hasn’t gotten any reports of damage from all the water but reminds drivers: don’t try to go through flooded streets.
