Pegasus Parade 2019 will be superhero themed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ)- The 2019 Republic Bank Pegasus Parade will be superhero themed. The parade is officially themed “Pegasus Power”.

The Kentucky Derby Festival encourages anyone who comes to the parade Thursday, May 2nd at 5 p.m. to dress up in superhero costumes.

The Grand Marshals will be dressed up as Marvel heroes Black Panther, Spider-Man, Captain America and Black Widow.

“The parade has been bringing families and the community together for more than 60 years,” said Mike Berry, KDF President and CEO. “This year’s parade will be one for the kid in all of us and we can’t wait to see fans in their favorite superhero costumes!”

The theme impacts float designers, inflatable handlers, and marching bands. It informs design of the floats and choice of music.

There will be 11 floats in the parade. According to the Derby Festival, many of them are built by the employees of the companies sponsoring them.

Fans can see the parade’s participants before the parade at the preview party on Tuesday, April 30 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in South Wing C. You will need a 2019 Pegasus Pin for admission.

You can buy tickets for the parade online. Bleacher seat tickets are $10. Chair seating costs $12.
