Panic at Frederick Douglass football game after claim of gun in the stands

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The high school football game at Frederick Douglass on Friday night was temporarily stopped after a middle school student shouted that someone had a gun, according to the school’s executive principal.

The incident happened during the fourth quarter of the game between Frederick Douglass and Bryan Station.

When the unaccompanied student made the claim on the Frederick Douglass side of the stands, several hundred fans ran out of the stadium, others laid down in the bleachers, the game was stopped and the players laid down on the field, according to the school.

Contrary to numerous posts on social media, no gun was found, according to the school.

Investigators are trying to find the student who incited the panic.

No one was injured, according to the executive principal.

Frederick Douglass is going to examine its policies about entrance to games in the future, including requirements that younger students be accompanied by an adult.
