Paid EMT training program coming to Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ/Press Release) – American Medical Response (AMR) today announced it is bringing its nationally recognized “Earn While Your Learn” program to Lexington, allowing EMT trainees to be full-time employees while taking the necessary certification courses to become emergency medical technicians.

This comprehensive educational program is an exciting opportunity for Lexington residents who want to begin a rewarding career in Emergency Medical Services and get paid as they train to become EMTs.  Upon successful completion of the program and obtaining their state certification, participants are promoted to EMT-B with a commensurate pay rate increase.

Brian Poer, Operations Manager for AMR, said the program has been successful in recruiting applicants interested in serving their communities as the need for frontline healthcare workers grows.

“The demand for healthcare professionals remains at an all-time high, and AMR’s Earn While You Learn program is an equitable, innovative solution that helps us fill these critical positions and allows some economic support in the process,” said Poer.

Since launching the “Earn While You Learn Program” in 2018, AMR has graduated over 500 EMS professionals. The program has made a career in emergency medical services more accessible, ensuring that a candidate is financially stable while training.

Diversity and inclusion are major underpinnings of the “Earn While You Learn” program  and have helped the company recruit high numbers of women and people of color. AMR and GMR are committed to hiring diverse candidates through the “Earn While You Learn Program.”

The “Earn While You Learn” program received a national honor from the  American Ambulance Association in the best Employee Programs Category. Similar programs have also been  launched in Alabama, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Tennessee.

AMR is accepting applications for the EMS class until July 31. The class begins Aug. 12. Interested applicants should apply via the AMR West Michigan Facebook Page.
