Open motel room door leads to drug bust in Whitley County

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Officers say a wide open door led them to find drugs in a motel room in Whitley County Thursday morning.

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were on patrol near a Super 8 Motel around 1:20 a.m. when they noticed an unattended room with the door open.

When they approached the room, deputies say they smelled marijuana and saw Wesley Saunders and Kevin Miller inside.

According to deputies, they found out Miller had a warrant for his arrest out of Pike County. As they were arresting Miller, deputies say Saunders began to display nervous behavior. They say Saunders admitted to having marijuana in his jacket pocket.

After searching him, detectives say they found suspected marijuana, heroin and Suboxone.

Saunders is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
