One year ago Savannah Spurlock went missing
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Saturday marks one year since Savannah Spurlock the now infamous Richmond mom went missing.
Officers say her body was found naked and bound 6 months later in garbage bags buried in a shallow grave on the property of her alleged killer’s parent’s property in Garrard County.
David Sparks was arrested and faces murder charges.
He is scheduled to be in court in March.
Investigators say Spurlock was last seen alive on January 4, 2019, leaving a bar in Lexington with three men, one of whom was Sparks. Her body was discovered in July, buried in the yard of Sparks’ parents’ home in Garrard County.
Investigators say a rug found buried with Spurlock’s body came from Sparks’ bedroom at his Price Court home in Garrard County and that blood found in a closet in Sparks’ home matched Spurlock’s DNA.
A detective says Sparks told investigators that he, Spurlock, and two other men went back to his home on January 4. After the other two men left, Sparks claims he let Spurlock sleep in his bed while he stayed on the couch. He says she later woke him up and asked him where she was, and he gave her the address. He says he went back to sleep and, when he woke up the next day, she was gone.
According to the detective, investigators believe Sparks went to his parents’ home for two hours on the evening of January 4 then returned early the next morning and was there for approximately two more hours.
Sparks is in the Lincoln County Detention Center. He is scheduled to answer to the new charge on Friday, September 6, 2019, according to court documents.
