One person killed, vehicle crashes off interstate landing in water

ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – One person was killed while driving a vehicle on I-75 that ran off the interstate and landed in a nearby creek, according to the Rockcastle County Coroner.

It happened Thursday around 1:00 a.m near Flat Gap Road in Rockcastle County.

Kentucky State Police say the driver, 23-year-old Shawn Smith, was traveling southbound on I-75 when he lost control of his truck and went over an embankment.

Police say he was thrown from the truck before it became submerged in a nearby creek.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was the only person inside the truck, according to police.
