One more day of rain & storms before we heat things up
Scattered showers and storms remain in the forecast for Thursday
LEXINGTON, Ky (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – A weak cold front is working its way through the region today, helping to spark off additional scattered showers and storms across central and eastern Kentucky. While we’re not looking at a widespread severe weather event, a few stronger storms could develop—especially this afternoon and early evening—bringing brief heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning.
With all the recent rain and already saturated ground, it won’t take much for any heavier downpours to trigger some localized flooding issues. So while the overall severe risk is low, some nuisance flooding or strong wind gusts can’t be ruled out, especially in eastern Kentucky ahead of the passing front.
Once the front clears the region tonight, skies will gradually clear, humidity levels will dip just a bit, and we’ll enjoy some brief relief heading into Friday. Lows overnight fall back into the mid 60s.

Summer Heat Builds This Weekend
The break doesn’t last long. High pressure builds in and takes control for the weekend, bringing a surge of heat and increasingly humid air. Temperatures climb into the low 90s by Sunday, with heat index values pushing the upper 90s—possibly near 100° in the hottest spots. This pattern looks to hold well into next week.
We’ll stay mainly dry through the weekend and early next week, but keep an eye out as storm chances may return toward midweek.
