One man arrested in connection with deadly Franklin Co. fire

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – In Franklin County, one man has been arrested in connection with a deadly fire that took the lives of two teenage boys.

“The investigation has led to the arrest of 44-year-old Dustin fields for arson in the first degree,” said Chief Deputy Dwayne Depp.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office other charges could be added later.

Around 12:45 Wednesday morning, fire crews in Franklin County were called to a home going up in flames in the 5800 block of Flat Creek Road.

“Upon arrival there was partial collapse and there was heavy fire throughout the structure,” said Fire Chief Brain Brewer. “Personnel continued fighting the fire and searching until the victims were located.”

Two people and a dog died as a result of the fire.

Autopsies for the victims were performed Thursday morning. Right now, the victims’ identities haven’t been released.

A statement from the Franklin County Coroner says “Although we believe to know the identifications, we rather rely on scientific facts to confirm identification, age and gender of the decedents.”

County Judge Executive Michael Mueller says even though he is not sure of the victims identities yet one loss is too many.

“Hopefully we can all be there for the family of the deceased and we just need to pull together and get out of this together,” said Mueller.

The investigation into how and where the fire started is still ongoing.

The coroner’s office says official results from the autopsies could take 16 to 20 weeks.
