One killed in Lincoln County crash
UPDATE POSTED 1:30 P.M. MARCH 17, 2021
LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 70-year-old man on his way to meet his wife at their home in Whitley City dies in a late-night traffic accident.
Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum identified the victim as Danny Bryant. Marcum said Bryant was from North Vernon, Ind., but he and his wife owned property in Whitley City. Bryant had been in Indiana taking care of some business and was on his way back to Kentucky when the accident happened at about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy Michael Mullins said Bryant was southbound on U.S. Highway 27 when he lost control of the 2004 Ford Explorer he was driving near Shake Rag Road in the Highland community south of Stanford. The SUV left the right side of the road and Bryan apparently over-corrected, Marcum said.
The SUV flipped across the northbound lane coming to rest on the passenger side on the northbound shoulder against a guard rail.
Bryant was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene, Marcum said.
A Doberman Pinscher dog that was in the SUV apparently got out and ran away, but was found by family members at about noon Wednesday they returned to the scene, Marcum said.
Mullins and the coroner both said they have no idea what might have distracted Bryant or whether he had a medical issue that might have contributed to the accident.
Bryan had called his wife at about 10 p.m. from Harrodsburg and after she fell asleep and awoke between 11:30 and midnight and her husband wasn’t home, she started calling area law enforcement, including Lincoln County Dispatch. Marcum was finally able to speak to her, he said.
