One dead after Easter morning crash in Letcher Co.

PAYNE GAP, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police say a Whitesburg man is dead after a crash Sunday morning.

Troopers say they were called to US 119 at around 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning on a report that a car had caused some property damage to a residential yard in the Payne Gap community.

When they arrived, investigators say they found a car in a creek, but didn’t see anyone around it.  A man was later found trapped underneath the vehicle.

The Letcher County Coroner pronounced the victim, 28-year-old Larry C. Stidham, dead at the scene.

Troopers believe Stidham was headed north on US 119 when he collided with a guardrail, fence, and utility pole before overturning, going over an embankment, and coming to rest against several trees.  Stidham was apparently thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

Invesigators say Stidham was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, and toxicology results are pending.
