One-day event gives community the chance to safely surrender horses

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – In an effort to reduce the suffering and abandonment of horses, an animal welfare organization is giving horse owners a chance to safely surrender their horses during a one-day event.

Horse Plus Humane Society is hosting a one-day open door shelter event May 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Clark County Fairgrounds.

There is no charge to surrender a horse.

A team of local veterinarians will be on site to evaluate each horse for quality of life and adoptability.

The organization says adoptable horses are placed with pre-screened 501(c)(3) placement partners, locally or with one of tjeir national partners.

Placement Partners for this event are: Kentucky Humane Society, Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, Kentucky Equine Humane Center and Horse Plus Humane Society.

The organization suggests pre-registering, as it is important and will help them anticipate how many horses will be surrendered.
