One camper found dead in tent

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Crews with the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team worked multiple rescue missions over the weekend and they say one turned into a recovery mission as they found a camper dead in his tent.

In a post on Facebook, Search and Rescue says crews got a call for a camper who was not breathing around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

They say attempts to contact the group involved by phone were unsuccessful and an exact location of their campsite wasn’t readily available.

A team member eventually located a member of the group along KY Highway 715, near the suspension bridge parking area. They found the campsite in the Wolfepen Area, just north of the parking lot.

They found the man unresponsive in his tent. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Menifee County Coroner.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Then around 2 p.m. crews received another call about a woman experiencing heat exhaustion while hiking in the Hansons Point Area.

They were able to locate her after a three-mile hike into the location. She was treated for dehydration and was able to hike out on her own.

The Search and Rescue Team urges people to stay cool and take frequent breaks as we continue to see hot and humid temperatures in the area.
