Officer suspended, K-9 released after attack on girl
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Hopkinsville police officer has been reprimanded after a police dog bit a child at one of the city’s schools last month. The dog, named Eddie, has been removed from duty.
Kentucky New Era (http://bit.ly/1GeMiuS ) reports that a girl at Millbrooke Elementary School was attacked by Eddie on May 9 outside of a school building. The unidentified girl suffered cuts to her face and was treated at a hospital.
Eddie’s handler, Officer Jack Lingenfelter has been removed from the department’s K-9 program and given a one-week suspension without pay.
The decision was announced on Monday by police department spokesman Paul Ray, following a month-long internal investigation into the incident.
Ray says Eddie, who had been with the force since August, has been returned to the Indiana company that trained him.
