Officer fatally shoots burglary suspect, KSP investigating

INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A suspected burglary was fatally shot Tuesday morning by a police officer in Independence, according to the Kentucky State Police, which has been called in to investigate the shooting.

Independence and Kenton County Police Department officers responded to a burglary in progress at 845 Ridgepoint Drive, the KSP said in a statement.

Officers entered the home and encountered a man who brandished a firearm at the officers, troopers said. An officer fired his service weapon, killing the man, who has not yet been identified, according to the KSP statement.

The shooting happened at about 7:35 a.m.

No officers or members of the community were injured during this incident.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local law enforcement agencies.
