Officer Ellis’ cruiser comes home

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – The legacy of fallen officer, Daniel Ellis, will live on at the Richmond Police Department.

Starting Monday morning at 10 o’clock, Officer Ellis’ cruiser will be on display in front of the department for a few days.

Right after Ellis’ death, many mourners came to pay their respects by visiting and decorating his cruiser with flowers and letters.

The department says the cruiser has been commemorated with special decals including Ellis’ badge number, 457, and his signature.

A spokesperson for the Richmond Police Department says the vehicle will eventually be used as a unit for school resource officers.

“He was a great police officer and a great person,” said Major Steve Gregg with the Richmond Police Department. “It’s a good way to give back, give back to Daniel, give back to the community, his wife and family and make everybody appreciate what he did for us.”
