Observant Martin County sheriff’s deputy arrests burglary suspect

MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – An observant Martin County sheriff’s deputy put two-and-two together and arrested a burglary suspect Monday.

On October 14, someone broke into a garage and stole weed eaters and a chainsaw.  Later that day, Deputy Chris Todd was getting gas at a BP station when he heard a car crash.

Deputy Todd responded to the scene and says he found Tommy Fletcher, who he says had lost control of his car and crashed.

Deputy Todd says he noticed weed eaters and a chainsaw in Fletcher’s car.  When asked where they came from, Deputy Todd says Fletcher told him he didn’t know.

On October 21, Deputy Todd was investigating the tool burglary when he saw security camera video of the theft.  He says the video shows Tommy Fletcher driving up in the same car that was involved in the crash and that Fletcher is seen going into the garage, stealing the tools and putting them in the car.

Fletcher was arrested October 22 and charged with burglary, according to the deputy.

Fletcher was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
