November arrives on a chilly note

The early morning freeze potential spreads into Eastern Kentucky early Wednesday with more chilly air to kick off the new month.

There was definitely some frost on the pumpkins (and everything else especially for areas of Central and Western Kentucky to kick off this Halloween early this morning. With skies clearing in those areas, temperatures dropped into the upper 20s in most locations, thus ended the growing season there. It was a different story in Eastern Kentucky where clouds held temperatures above freezing but we won’t be so lucky heading into early Wednesday.

It was sunny but chilly during the afternoon hours with sunshine and highs in the mid-40s. A wave of low pressure spinning through the Great Lakes will through some clouds southward into Tuesday evening with a brisk west breeze making it quite cold for trick-or-treaters. Even with the winds staying up a bit, a hard freeze is expected for the entire area with a Freeze Warning posted for Eastern Kentucky until 10am Wednesday morning.

Freezewarning

After the cold start on Wednesday we are set up for a pretty but chilly day across the region. With high pressure building in from the west expect plenty of sunshine but given the cold start the sun will have a tough moderating temperatures much. You’ll need the jacket/coat from start to finish as afternoon highs top out in the mid to upper 40s.

Tg Futurecast With Temperature

We’ll shift back into a dry and quiet pattern as we close out the week and head into the upcoming weekend, As the high drifts eastward, a return flow will pick up later this week with temperatures slowly recovering. We should go from mid-50s on Thursday to low-60s Friday (and good for Friday evening for the first round of the high school football playoffs) before surging into the upper-60s over the weekend.

Our next storm system looks to make a run at the commonwealth into early next week with the model data starting to come into agreement with the timing of a cold front. At this point, our rain chances should pick up late next Monday with the heaviest rain possible into the early hours of Tuesday. As the rain tapers off Tuesday, another shot of cooler air will follow suit as we go from around 70 degrees for a high on Sunday to the low 50s Tuesday.
