Two men now accused of the murder of a Lexington toddler pleaded not guilty in court.
Charges were upgraded from assault to murder against two men arrested in connection to the shooting death of toddler, according to Lexington Police.
Investigators say they determined both men were responsible for firing shots during what turned out to be a deadly robbery attempt.
Police say Marquis Thurman and Adrian Dunn went to a home on Kenton Street late Monday night, knocked on the front door, went inside and confronted a man they knew over money.
Investigators say a disorder ensued and multiple shots were fired and Thurman and Dunn ran off.
Police say Nova Gallman, 2, who was on the couch in the room, was shot in the head. She later died at the hospital.
The man, 27, who was confronted, who was identified as the boyfriend of Gallman’s mother, was shot in the abdomen, but survived.
The two suspects were arrested at a hospital after checking themselves in for injuries suffered during the gunfire.
The two were initially charged with assault and robbery. Both men pleaded not guilty to those charges on Wednesday, prior to the charge being upgraded to murder against each man.
They remain in jail without bond.
