Northern Kentucky student in custody after gun spotted

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) — A Northern Kentucky University spokeswoman says a student is in custody after being seen with a gun in the school library.

The spokeswoman says the student didn’t brandish the weapon and that by the time a campus alert would have been issued, university police had the situation under control.

Spokeswoman Amanda Nageleisen (NAY’-geh-ly-sehn) says another student reported to police the sighting of what appeared to be a weapon at about 9:45 a.m. EDT Thursday. Nageleisen says Highland Heights police also responded but that university police were on the scene within 90 seconds of receiving the call.

The student hasn’t been identified. Nageleisen said further details would be released later Thursday.
