Nice weather continues for the first day of school ahead of late week rain and storms

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy first day of school! We are tracking fantastic conditions out there as many area school districts head back to school on Wednesday. Morning temperatures fell to the low 60s and upper 50s for most of the area. We will be climbing back into mid-to-upper 80s by the afternoon. There will be a few more clouds to end the day compared to the morning hours. Another pleasant overnight can be anticipated thanks to drier air remaining in place.
We will continue to track warmer temperatures on Thursday. Afternoon highs should reach the upper 80s and low 90s for most. However, rain chances return during the second half of the day. Late afternoon and evening rain chances will be possible, mainly for central Kentucky. This chance will increase late Thursday night into Friday morning.
A couple round of rain and storms will be possible on Friday. A morning round of rain and storms lingering from Thursday night, follow by an late day around of showers and storms. This is ahead of a cold front that will be pushing through the region. There is a Level 1 Severe Risk out for all of Kentucky for Friday into Friday night. Isolated damaging wind gusts will be the primary severe weather threat, while isolated heavy rain will also be possible. The upper level system associated with the Friday system will take it’s good ole time exiting the region. This could keep isolated rain chances around Saturday into Sunday.
Overall, a slightly below average temperature trend will be with us into next week. Afternoon highs will likely remain in the low-to-mid 80s for most of the week.
