New Security System Being Used By Fifth Third Bank

The Fifth Third Bank in Lexington’s Hamburg area is using a new security system that can tell if someone is carrying a weapon on them and lock them out of the bank.

The ‘vestibule’ is like a metal detector that scans the person coming into the bank for any large metal objects that are shaped like a gun or knife.

The doors, including the exit remain locked if such an object is detected.

The area is also monitored by security cameras with glass walls that are bullet-proof.

Fifth Third says so far they are using vestibules in 55 of their financial centers.

They say the system is still in its ‘pilot’ stage, but says so far customers and bankers like the system and say it takes only a few more seconds to get into the building.
