New Poll Shows McConnell Leading
"All eyes are on Kentucky," said Jonathan Miller, political blogger.
That’s because Mitch McConnell has a Republican challenger now, plus a Democratic challenger waiting in the wings.
A new poll by NBC and Marist said if most Republicans in Kentucky were to pick between Senator McConnell and Matt Bevin now, they would go for McConnell.
The poll read 57 percent would go with McConnell, 25 percent with Bevin.
That data was collected in late April to early May.
"Mitch McConnell is far ahead. It would take a strange happening to upset that apple cart," said Stephen Voss, UK political science professor.
According to the poll, just 41 percent of the sample approve of the job McConnell is doing in the senate where 46 percent disapprove.
As Professor Voss said there’s a psychology behind voting.
"What they’re usually trying to figure out is, will this person behave in Washington as I would if I were there," said Voss.
NBC News and Marist also compared McConnell and Alison Grimes. McConnell leads that poll by one point.
