New information to avoid charity scams

FRANKFORT, Ky (WTVQ) – New information has been released to help Kentuckians avoid becoming a victim to charity scams was released on Tuesday.

According to The Office of the Attorney General, charity scam cases usually peak during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

Some tips to avoid scams are:

– Plan your giving in advance

– Identify a charity aligned with your values

– Decide on the appropriate donation level

– Research charities before donating with the Better Business Bureau

– Be on guard of imposters

The Office of the Attorney General says to never wire money or use gift cards or cash to make charitable donations.

You should also never give your social security number or banking information to someone representing a charity.
