New high-tech workforce training center coming to Barbourville

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ)Over $6 million in grant funding will be provided to Barbourville for a new high-tech workforce training center. The project received over $6 million combined state and federal funding for the KCEOC Community Action Partnership, Inc. to construct and develop the facility.

The Work Ready Training Center will provide trade, certificate, and post-secondary education opportunities in high-demand career sectors such as healthcare, technology, advanced manufacturing, and transportation/logistics. Programs will be supported and administrated by Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.

The 37,000-square-foot center is expected to create 10 full-time jobs for faculty and staff, and will serve more than 1,000 students and trainees wishing to pursue new career opportunities or build upon existing skill sets.

The programs will be employer-driven to meet demand and are expected to be offered in a fast-track format to allow students to be employed quickly upon earning their degrees or certificates.

The Work Ready Training Center is expected to begin enrolling students in 2020.
