New books for Booker T. Washington students

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Summer break is just a day a way for Fayette Co. Schools, and as if the students at Booker T. Washington Primary and Intermediate schools weren’t excited enough, they also received a special surprise Wednesday morning.

ABC 36’s Lauren Gawthrop was on hand to pass out some new books for the students.  The books they received are courtesy of Disney’s “The Magic of Storytelling” program, with local help from Fayette Heating & Air, the Rotary Club of Lexington, and ABC 36.  1,000 books were sent to the schools to go home with their more than 600 students.

The program aims to encourage kids to keep reading over the Summer, and from the excitement displayed by many of the students, they aren’t planning to waste any time.

The books that didn’t go home with students will be used to stock the schools’ libraries and be given away through other reading programs.
