National Weather Service to visit areas impacted by severe storms

LOUISA, Ky. (WTVQ) – The National Weather Service plans to visit Louisa, Kentucky Tuesday after high winds battered the community and a funnel cloud formed.

The NWS will determine if that funnel cloud was in fact a tornado.

Emergency officials say the winds that tore through the town were strong enough to throw trucks off the road. The Mayor of Louisa says the town’s Walmart took the brunt of the hit where dozens were riding out the storm inside.

In Lexington, residents in the Mason Headley Road and Wolf Run Drive neighborhoods are cleaning up debris after branches and trees were uprooted in Monday’s storm.

Emergency officials told ABC 36 — a tree snapped and came crashing down on a home with twin newborns inside. The family made it out safely.

At least five people suffered minor injuries in Monday’s weather, according to officials.
