National Assoc. for Black Veterans chapter forms in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) — The first Tennessee chapter of the National Association for Black Veterans has formed in Jackson, Tennessee.

The Jackson Sun reports ( ) the chapter was formed Saturday at the Jackson-Madison County NAACP office.

James Nichols was elected temporary commander of the chapter. He says the organization will be beneficial because there are a lot of black veterans, as well as white veterans, who aren’t aware of the benefits they’re entitled to.

The National Association for Black Veterans has 109 chapters throughout the nation, as well as in Guam and Puerto Rico.

Tennessee is a part of Region VI, which includes Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and Ohio.
