UPDATE: Attempted murder suspect turns himself in

The Mt. Sterling Police Department says James L. Jones turned himself into police Tuesday afternoon.

MT. STERLING, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police in Mt. Sterling are searching for a man they say is considered “armed and dangerous.”

James. L. Jones is accused of shooting a man at an adult birthday party on Locust Street in Mt. Sterling on Sunday.

The Mt. Sterling Police Department says Jones and the man got into a physical altercation and Jones pulled out a gun and shot at the man.

The victim was hit in the arm and the bullet traveled into his chest, according to police.

He was take to the University of Kentucky hospital where he underwent surgery.

Police issued a warrant for Jones for attempted murder.

Police say anyone who sees Jones or knows his whereabouts should not approach him. They should call the Mt. Sterling Police Department immediately at (859) 498- 8899 or Montgomery 911 Center at (859) 498-8720.
