Mother calls for safety improvements at Lexington Cemetery

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Lexington mother is speaking out for more safety at The Lexington Cemetery pond after her son drowned.

Police say D’Shannon Davis, 11, was fishing with friends Sunday afternoon when he fell into the pond. He was pronounced dead at U.K. Hospital.

Davis’ drowning is the second in a week at the pond. Last week, police say a man died after he slipped and fell into the water.

Now Davis’ mom, Devernel, wants the cemetery to put a fence around the pond.

There already are no swimming and no fishing signs surrounding the pond at the cemetery.

Lexington Cemetery is not commenting on the drownings at this time. Police say officers are talking with the cemetery about safety measures.
