Mother arrested after 6-year-old found with pot at school

FLAT LICK, Ky. (WTVQ) –  The Knox Co. Sheriff’s Office has arrested the mother of a six-year-old child after the child came to school with marijuana.

The Sheriff says Dewitt Elementary School officials reported the find about 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.  After conducting an investigation, authorities attempted to locate the mother, but were unable to find her.  When school let out, investigators say they followed the school bus to the child’s home where they were able to find 28-year-old Ashley Edwards.

The Sheriff’s Office says a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the home.  Edwards was arrested and charged with endangering a minor, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  She was taken to the Knox Co. Detention Center.

The child was released to a family member.
