More storms and high humidity on Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Thursday! Our active and muggy pattern continues today. Isolated-to-scattered showers and storms will be around through your morning and early afternoon hours. This may pose a localized risk for flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood prone areas that have received a lot of rain recently. There is a Flood Watch in effect for southern and southeastern Kentucky through 5 AM Friday.
Most of Kentucky has a Level 2 Severe Risk today due to late afternoon and evening strong storms that will be rolling into the region. Similar to yesterday, a cluster of storms will be moving in from the northwest. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat. Isolated large hail is possible, and there is a low-end tornado threat as well.
When it’s not storming it’s going to be very warm and muggy. The heat index could climb into the upper 90s, if not the low 100s in spots. This heat and high humidity will help fuel the storms. After the main cluster of storms moves through tonight, we will see just isolated activity during the overnight hours.
Another day of scattered showers and storms is expected on Friday. There is a low-end Level 1 Severe Risk on Friday for the damaging wind gust potential. Isolated-to-scattered instances of flash flooding will be possible once again as well. Temperatures will be warm but the high heat will likely be limited by the scattered nature of the storms.
One final day of rain and storm chances is expected on Saturday. These storms will likely stay sub-severe but there will the chance of some isolated heavy downpours. Temperatures take a hit on Saturday as well. Many locations will struggle to reach the mid-80s.
We will try to dry things out by Sunday. This will lead to hot and mainly dry conditions to start next week. For once, we could use a brief dry stretch across the region.
