Monday warm-up ahead of strong mid-week cold front
Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
Happy Monday! What a beautiful day to kickoff the work-week. Afternoon highs will soar into the low 70s for the afternoon hours. Southerly winds keep temperatures mild tonight into Tuesday as well.
This will lead to isolated-to-scattered showers and a few storms on Tuesday. It won’t be a complete washout and you can expect periods of dry conditions which will allow temperatures to climb near the upper 60s and low 70s once again.
Late Tuesday into Wednesday morning is when a more organized line of showers and storms will push through the region. This will be along a strong cold front that will plummet temperatures during the day on Wednesday. There is a Level 1 Severe Threat for northern Kentucky for late Tuesday night.
A more organized period of strong-to-severe storms will be possible for this area, before the main line pushes through Wednesday morning. This main line will have a lower threat of severe weather thanks to the timing. A 30+ degrees temperature drop is expected throughout the daytime on Wednesday.
The exact timing of the front will make all the difference but early Wednesday temperatures could drop from the mid-60s, to the mid-30s in the matter of a few hours.
Expect around an inch of rain for most, with locally higher amounts possible in areas experiencing storms. You can also expect strong wind gusts, beginning Tuesday afternoon. Wind gusts upwards of 30-40 mph are likely Tuesday afternoon, gusting as strong as 40 mph+ Tuesday night into early Wednesday. Winds will shift Wednesday from a southerly wind early, to a northwesterly wind to end the day.
